The painting Deobjectified is constructed of two layers, and it is the result of the process of trying to find new forms of expressions. On the underneath red layer, we can still see the word Consume in bright yellow, which is penetrating thru the white in the first plane, the surface being painted with broad brushstrokes, to emphasize the action of erasing the undertones. The only object formulated clearly in the picture is a pink bra, hanging on the drying rope on the right side of the picture. Nowadays pink is stated to be a feminine color, it was also the bourgeoisie fashion and interior design color, favored equally by men and women in 1700's, while the lush 18th century's Rococo movement was a perfect setting for the color to rise to fame in the Western-art historical canon. I chose it because I wanted the symbolism of the painting to be clear at the first glance by today's prevailing understandings of the color pink, and also because it was a suitable hue to add to the already constructed background of the painting. This piece of women's lingerie has thus become a symbol of all the struggles my female ancestors had to go thru, in order to deliver respect to women, starting from the voting right, to the equal employment opportunities, domestic endeavours, and also to explain the standards of the image a woman needs to create in order to be appreciated in the male social and economical power predominant society. Ergo, the nickname of the painting: Feminism Is Hot. On the other hand, not to override the above mentioned struggles of the female population with their male supporters of the subject, today we're witnessing a huge wave of hyperfeminized occurrences, going to the extremes I don't want to go into in this short presentation, and are hopefully just a step in the process of cleansing centuries long inherited rage of the suppressed. Wanting or not, I am a successor of all these strives, because by a chance chromosome game I was born in a female body. I'd like for this artwork not to be seen as made for women only, I would desire for it to speak to all, who have at one point or another felt no better than an object, bought, used, and thrown away, or in other words: consumed. It is a statement against any kind of oppressive behaviour, and a plead, to rethink the courses of our social history. However, sometimes it is more important to pay attention to the words not being spoken out loud, as for me it is much more intriguing, what the lady, or to expand the definition beyond the sex predominating connotations - person does and feels outside the frames of the picture, after exposing so bravely an item of the intimate value to the public eye, being left somewhere beyond the views, liberated, and naked in one's own truth.
