About The Artwork

The piece is inspired by the works of Edvard Munch, Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso and Ian Chamberlain. It was primarily inspired by the movements of Expressionism, Cubism and Fauvism. I utilised spray paint to create interesting painterly textures whilst using ink to express the hardness of the piece's geometry. The work is a very personal response to the beauty of the location where I live, namely the cliffs, but also the earth as a whole. It does, however, harbour a much more sinister meaning, displaying the drab, depressing inevitability of humankind's destruction of our unique environment. This is expressed in the piece through the juxtaposition of colour and rough, ragged geometry. Perhaps the desolate house atop the cliff is both a symbol of comfort and one of destruction.
