About The Artwork
I paint portraits of concrete blocks and cinder block walls in acrylic on silk. Due to silk’s fine weave, the illusion of cement is not compromised by the texture of canvas. I utilize brushes, rubbing, and spray paint to transform the silk into concrete. No computer, printing, silk screen, or photo techniques are used. "Discombobulated" represents my state of mind using a pile of cinder blocks and graffiti. I cut the shape of the pile of blocks out of a piece of hardboard. I then glue the silk painting to this shaped panel. The supporting structure separates the artwork from the wall a couple inches, creating a sculptural effect.
