Don't Follow Me Painting

Creativity has been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I worked as a photographer and graphic designer for my local news publications before going out on my own to freelance. I loved my work but having a paintbrush in hand is when I really feel the spark of creativity ignited so I bit the bullet 12 months ago and decided to concentrate my time on exploring various styles and mediums, from realism to abstract expressionism. I found painting still life very satisfying in the way that when it's done, it's done and I can stand back and say yes, it looks like it should, but it started to feel too constrained. I wanted to break free and let go on the canvas so abstract expressionism is where I am concentrating my time at the moment. Art brings out our emotions, whether it's happy, sad or excited, it draws these feelings out. It helps me to process my thoughts and quiet my mind, like a form of meditation. I’m drawn to organic shapes, repetitive pattern, simple colour combinations. I like the imperfect, it's far more interesting than perfect!
