About The Artwork

As a wildlife painter, Nanda strives to paint more than a static image, although she mainly paints portraits. Something has to happen in the painting. In this case, this lion is briefly distracted while drinking. He looks up, is alert but does not feel attacked. The eyes do radiate that it is advisable not to come closer. "Leave me alone" he seems to be saying. A quiet moment, as we all sometimes have. A beautiful realistic oilpainting!

My name is Nanda Hoep, I am an Award-winning Dutch artist. In 2019 I was the FIRST PRIZE WINNER at the yearly "Richeson75 Animals, Birds & Wildlife" competition. In 2018 I won the FIRST PRIZE in the category Realism-Animals in the American Art Awards competition (also wins in 2016/2017/2018). My works have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in Belgium and the United Kingdom. I describe my highly realistic paintings of animals as a pathway to creating a connection and a sense of empathy from the viewer. I endeavor to know my subjects as best I can in order to represent them "as beautifully as nature does". My incredibly detailed compositions are created using oils on canvas or linen. Characteristic of the singularity in my work is the approach to the subject, which is mainly expressed in the way of cropping - macro - and lighting. Spectators (and new owners) of my work often feel very close to the animal by the look in the eyes and the majestic, unique and untouchable appearance of the portrayed animal. My paintings are displayed in numerous private collections internationally, for example in The Netherlands, UK, Belgium, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong and the United States. Commissions (including wildlife and/or pets) are welcome. You can always contact me for more details, or an acquaintance.
