Ease Painting

This series was experimental in working with raw canvas and thinning acrylics. I often used my hands over brushes moving the color through layers and layers and working with the paint to get the right opacity. Some of the work in this series also incorporates oil stick and raw powder pigment. My process itself begins as a therapeutic release to feel my way through the paint continuing into a piece that feels fluid while combining colors that evoke a feeling- whether it is harmonious, upbeat, or giving that feeling of satisfaction- like ringing out a sponge. It isn't until I finish a series that I realize what the process meant and therefore what transpired within myself. I translated this via the photos and extended the meaning of the art itself. The "Fish out of Water" series ended up this testament to my current living situation. Having spent my adult life in large metropolitan cities and coming to live in a suburban sprawl of stereotypical America and how at times I feel oddly content to sometimes invisible and often a complete outsider.
