About The Artwork
A swirling ocean on a dark night, this painting evokes feelings of the infinite depth beneath that which we see. It is the result of my fascination for questioning the right side of an artwork, the side the artist sees when painting it, or the invisible side that creates itself and usually remains hidden. I work with controlled pours on plastic which enable me to lift the finished work, cut it, turn it over, collage it back together again enabling the viewer to have a rare insight into both sides of the work at once. Ebb has limited raised elements of coiled paint, and has a glossy finish with evident brushmarks in places. Please note that limited bumps and ripples are an inherent part of the process.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
