The Space Anfractuous paintings celebrate the notion of infinity and immensity that resides in every being. The series of paintings are open to different interpretations - the more, the better. Sometimes, a single sentence can be a turning point in our lives. “Drawings can be phenomenological” – this single idea, led Sovona to set her journey of explorations through drawing and painting.

The Space Anfractuous paintings are an extended version of the ‘Soliloquies’ series; they reflect the conversations that the artist has with herself. Each painting is thoughtfully curated and is inhabited by several layers of meanings and strings of thoughts.
The paintings are an extended version of the artist, more like portraits of her mindscapes. They are painted in the most traditional way, absolutely freehand brush strokes. The choice of weapon for these paintings is just brushes and colors. They are raw, honest, and bold.

Sovona Ghatak is an architect and artist currently based in New Delhi, India. Having founded her independently-run design studio, Space Anfractuous, she has professional experience across multiple disciplines and scales. Through her practice and research, Sovona is investigating the intersection of art, architecture, and philosophy. She has done various national and international collaboration and commission projects. Her Anfractuous paintings and prints are shipped worldwide and have traveled to many cities including London, New York, Mumbai, Richmond, Ahemdabad, etc. Her body of work is fueled by the notion that embraces the immensity of the complexities of a being or object. She believes that complex systems like architecture should not be immured in one definite thing, and the architectural explorations should go beyond the idea of ‘either-or’ and embrace the idea of ‘and-both’. Her works traverse the ethereal boundaries between art and architecture, being and non-being, material and memory. Sovona is an M.Arch II candidate at Harvard University, Graduate School of Design (2021-2023), Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has received her Bachelor of Architecture degree with Distinction from the MBS School of Planning and Architecture, GGSIPU in 2018. Previously, she has worked with Nuru Karim in Mumbai and Design Excelsior in New Delhi.
