The work developed from the starting line of the artist’s German poem Auswanderung (‘wie gut den engen Häusern zu entkommen’), an acoustic reading of which is found at http://www.ottolaske.com/poems/p_g_aam_auswanderung.mp3. It emphasizes the contrast between ‘narrow houses’ and ‘streets that are broader, brighter, and lead further’ by way of the split between its left and right side, -- a contrast that is strengthened by the use of color as well as contrasting (straight and curbed) strokes. In its totality, the visual work also renders the poem’s emphatic ‘Nein’ (No) as an answer to what is left behind in the escape, both to a different culture and way of living. The work celebrates the escape into personal freedom, foreshadowing a personal development beyond belief systems absorbed initially but found limiting. The work is printed on Hot Press Fine Art Smooth Bright White paper (an acid free, 100% cotton rag media with a bright textured finish, yielding an extremely high color gamut and black density). It is signed and numbered by the artist, accompanied by a CoA, and shipped without hanging hardware, in a very sturdy tube protected against folding and puncture.

I am an experimental artist working in digital painting, graphics, abstract photography, animation, and textile design. My work is abstract in the sense that I invent shapes, colors, and textures without reference to representational concerns. Working entirely digitally, I consider the boundaries between domains of visual art as entirely permeable. Since I work with a large variety of tools aided by a mastery of controlled random, the outcome of my composition and design processes are unpredictable; their results often straddle the line between established visual-art categories. The majority of my visual work is found on SaatchiArt where my musical compositions and German and English poetry are found at www.ottolaske.com. Outside of my artistic work, I am the founder and director of the Interdevelopmental Institute (IDM), a graduate-level teaching institute for those interested in adult-developmental thinking and research.
