About The Artwork

This work is a very textural mixed media piece collaged on panel. It has a wired hanging system. I was exploring different motifs and marks using sticks and stamps. And then ripping and adhering to the panel. All the while bringing the viewer further into the piece.I particularly like the raw feeling i have achieved here by exposing raw edges.. It feels very rich and authentic. I always strive to be honest in my work by exposing my process.. this also allows me the freedom I find necessary to create. This is life .. things are not always pretty.

Rhonda Nolan is an established contemporary, mixed media artist. Her style is mostly defined by bold abstract textural marks on large canvases. Rhonda’s raw, graphic, markmaking is influenced by expressive street arts, her love of texture and her enduring curiosity for creating in all dimensions. For many years, she co-ordinated an art program for Toronto’s inner city homeless people. To which she attributes her love of expressive art. She is a self taught painter and collage artist and has been actively painting and exhibiting for over 20 years. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally. Rhonda comes from a textural background of papermaking and bookarts. She designed her own greeting cardline and invitations. Over the years she has taught workshops in creative technique and expressive art therapy. She has a design degree from Ryerson University that has given her a viable commercial appreciation for beauty in every aspect of life and a deepening desire to create relevant work on meaningful subjects to publicly share. In the last few years she has been exploring in 3 dimensions with large scale banners, and also exterior and interior installations. Covid has emphasized her intense desire and curiosity to create viable installations for public appreciation. Rhonda is a community player believing that this is what feeds her soul. She teaches expressive arts to all and loves exploring in artistic collaborations in all genres.
