Excerpt 7 Painting

The Excerpt series comes from a desire to re-use previously enjoyed materials. Art making generates a good amount of stuff: drawings, scraps of paper, canvas, mostly used paints, and in my case a bunch of masonite. I have made a central tenet of my work the re-use of materials that sit by the wayside for a number of weeks or months, its too bad for a work to be finished and then stored away indefinitely, much better to re-integrate it into the process. The Excerpt series is an experiment in this re-integration, I make cradled panels from masonite that I have used in other installations, using the existing painting as a ground to work back into. I collage, pour, and re-activate the surface, using the ground as an aggregate in a new body of work.
