About The Artwork

F for fake. The title F for fake comes after an Orson Welles’ film from 1974. In this film, the value system of art is understood as a construct of lies and certainties which are granted, in the light of what we believe to be our culture. F for fake examines culture through the figures of various forgers. The grey scale paintings, F for fake, are paintings that evoke the painting style of a contemporary well-established painter, but in this case, the imagery for the paintings comes from several documentary films dealing with class struggle and the image of what could be called “the people” in Argentinian films. The filmmakers involved in this case, were also activists, such as Raymundo Gleyzer, Fernando Birri, Marcelo Céspedes, etc.. The paintings were first exhibited as part of a research project from Universidad de Avellaneda, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and were later exhibited in other venues. This painting is a nine-part panel painting. For further details on this and other paintings, you are invited to browse www.behance.net/glaiman
