About The Artwork

Like lobster? I live on the coast of Maine. On any given day you're likely to see lobster buoys--sometimes many of them, piled up on a wharf, hanging on a garage, or in a lobsterman's driveway after re-painting. No two buoys are alike. Sometimes I like to paint my own. This image might puzzle someone "from away" (not from Maine) but lobster buoys are symbolic of a thriving industry made possible by thousands of hard-working folks up and down the coast. Lobsters used to be considered "trash food," good only for criminals and the poor. Then someone tried pouring melted butter on a lobster and--voila!--a new livelihood was born.
