Fandango Painting

This image was made with cut pieces of painted 1/2" hardwood plywood. The pieces are glued to a backing board, and the edges of the complete work are then finished; therefore no framing is required. Each individual piece is painted multiple times, then wet-sanded and spray-coated with an industrial acrylic. I used wood, and sanded down to reveal earlier layers of paint, to suggest that the material once had an earlier function and meaning, which is now lost to history. Because of the weight of these pieces, they are fitted with French cleats for hanging. A description of how to safely hang the work is provided.
