ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Fashion Tribe is on cradled wood panel. It is simple to hang with 2 nails. All four 1.5 inch deep edges are painted. No framing necessary. The woman's skin & dress are rich oil paint. Jewelry is crafted of oil, gold leaf, glass, & red (imitation) pearls. Background is mosaic created with an assortment of glass and ceramic tiles + hand cut glass pieces. The finish on the entire piece is a beautiful gloss. I initially gained inspiration for my People Watching series working in advertising. I was entranced yet repelled by the glossy images in magazines. I created blind contour paintings, transforming sterile, perfect images into whimsical satire. People watching is one of my favorite pastimes and its namesake series has expanded to include travel, child and angel portraits.
