About The Artwork

Fields of Gold ~ A bold and dramatic painting, in vibrant, rich, deep colours, beautifully textured, and with wonderful movement. This painting is a completely original work of art, painted on wood panel, and is beautifully framed in a contemporary, solid wood, white frame that perfectly compliments the artwork. It comes ready to hang on your wall. In the creation of this painting I used a variety of materials, from acrylics and iridescent pigments, as well as opulent gold metallic paints. The beautiful textures in this artwork were achieved through the use of the unusual mixture of materials as well as the unique painting techniques that I’ve been perfecting over a lifetime. This painting is part of a series entitled “Fields of Gold”. The inspiration behind it, is my desire to depict and communicate the beauty of grassy landscapes, in various places around the world, where I have lived or visited. Such as the bamboo forests of Japan, the prairie grasslands in Saskatchewan, and the wheat fields in the Alentejo region of Portugal and the hills of Tuscany. I travel a great deal and am very inspired by these grassy landscapes. The undulating of these beautiful plants as they sway in the breeze, and their shimmering colours as they catch the light or are backlit by a sunset, imbue them with a beauty that to me is unparalleled. Sometimes I simply sit and observe them, the images catalogued and stored in my mind for future inspiration, but often I paint miniature paintings “en pleine air” which I bring back to the studio as a reference for the full size artworks. Although this series references natural landscapes, the paintings are interpretive and abstracted, and never depict any specific place. What interests me as an artist is to depict not what I see, but what I feel, and what I hope others will feel when they look at my work. I’m interested in the intangible qualities of these landscapes and I believe these paintings capture their “essence”, from the majesty of the vast bamboo forests to the simple beauty of the humble prairie grass. Note: This painting is number eight in the series, and is signed in the back. It can be sold without a frame, at the preference of the collector, and the price of the painting and shipping costs adjusted accordingly. This painting was inspired by the wheat fields in Tuscany, where I traveled and painted for some time last year. I used a wide range of acrylics in its creation; from liquid to soft body to full body paints, to achieve a final result that is very vibrantly colorful and dramatically textured.
