Art Description

Painting: Ink, Gesso, Wax, Shellac on Wood.

This painting was created using light fast acrylic ink and traditional gesso ground on birch.

It was inspired by a process of walking and running in the Hertfordshire countryside during the winter period. The morning light in January can be fiercely red. The rest of the world can feel bleached out so the intensity of colour is accentuated.

I hope that viewers will be feel energised by the red, emboldened.

I work with traditional gesso ground because it is an incredibly sensitive and responsive surface. I use sandpaper, wood carving tools and wire wool to push the ink into the gesso surface. Even the finest of marks show up.
