Drawn from a photograph I took many years ago in Portugal. I wanted to see what Acrylic washes would look like over a large black line drawing. The colors of the boats are actual. The original photo had this rhythm but I didn't think that the results would look so Japanese. I can see how east meets west here - to my delight.

I allow myself allusions to the surreal, but without any intentional symbolism – details that you might imagine from the corner of your eye. A reviewer once described my artwork as questioning reality. I sometimes find joy in using confusion as an artistic tool to raise considerations about how we remember things
