Woman.
You are a rainbow kaleidoscope
of cascading beauty
You are dancing water and shimmering space
You have swallowed the moon
and sit on the sun
Your heart drips jewels and like Maya said
you've got diamonds at the meeting of your thighs
You are uncontainable
Your luscious body births the flow
of life itself
Woman, if you could only see what I see
you would never spend another second
doubting yourself
again

This painting took me most of a year to complete. It’s a depiction of my experience of kundalini energy flowing through my body. Kundalini (Sanskrit kund, “to burn”; kunda, “to coil or to spiral”) is understood in many ancient sacred traditions as the concentrated vital life force that flows from the base of our spine through the top of our head. It is thought to lie dormant until it is activated, often through yogic or spiritual practices, and can be consciously summoned through the chakra system. It’s a feminine energy, although both men and women have it, and connecting with it supports us in actualizing our potential.

About The Artwork

I AM SOVEREIGN UNTO MYSELF. MY BODILY AUTONOMY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE. Mother earth as a Black/Brown body. The Divine Feminine in her many forms - power, earthiness, sexuality, life force, wisdom, healing, wholeness. Radical self love. Queer love. Pleasure Politics. The body is not an apology. Divinity is implied. Sacred life force cannot be regulated.
