The circle is complete: here is the definitive version of a composition of 25 paintings that was created between 2000 and 2016.
Over time, each painting of 45 cm x 45 cm could be apprehended independently. That’s how the set was regularly dismounted for sale of one or more works.
The actual version is faithful to the original idea: the luxuriant, photographic, macrocosmic representations of flowers and fruits contrast strongly with the central painting (a panoramic view of the desert city of Leh, capital of Ladakh).
In the process of painting, precision, complexity and details became more and more important (waterdrops, textures, mold), while the last phase is a controlled “let go”: the 2 last paintings (fifth and third row, second paintings from the left) are a spontaneous and rythmic expression of forms and colours. However, some figurative elements can be found (the tree or the “semper magister”, symbolic flower of the Dutch golden century.)
This set is a peace allegory.
