About The Artwork

Welcome! Enjoy the authentic and original art by Dutch artist Sylvia Thijssen! Title of the painting: Flowing Tree From the series: The Forest Waves Size: 100 x 120 cm (± 39,5 x 47 inches) Dated: 2017, signed and dated on the front. Medium: this artwork is created with high quality artist paints (Ara). Painting is varnished to protect against UV, dust and scratches. Light catchers. These are special people, special places or special moments. It's memorable if something or someone can catch the light, and shows it to you. You can experience it as awareness-raising moments. About this series of expressionist paintings of trees: Born in October, I feel like an autumnchild. I love the storms, rough winds blowing the streets and through my head. After the stormy weather there is the quietness of the coloured leaves in the low sun sparkling between the dark trees. I become serene and in my head arise imaginations. In my paintings of trees I seek the movement between the action and the calmness, from the hectic life of chaotic tangled branches to a point of rest nature can give you. The colorful expressionist trees I paint, are a playful carrier of vivid emotions but show also my roots and my stability. The umbrella title of the series is: ‘The Forest waves, the Wood lures’. Through painting I am exploring my own forest that wants to be seen and be lived; the Latin word silva means ‘forest’ and my name; Sylvia means ‘living in the forest’. website: http://www.sylviathijssen.nl facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sylvia.thijssen youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bsvuox7dcv4 Art colors your life! My paintings bring imagination and inspiration into your home! About me; I’m a Dutch artist living in Breda, a small city in the south of The Netherlands. My love Jaap and I live in an authentic house from 1930, with stained glass windows, a little city garden and a lot of inspirational art. Together we have three beautiful daughters who have become world citizens and live and travel in various parts of the world. They give us an open look into modern society. My art studio is in a different part of our city and it is a four kilometers walk wherein I have to cross two small rivers. It is the perfect distance to free my mind of domestic affairs and to let my muse in. My studio is a nice, sunny, adventurous space, where people can find a warm welcome and a look into my world of colorful art. Besides my paintings I have also made a lot of objects. I have created many installations and even land art so in my studio you will find a lot of interesting 'leftovers' of different exhibitions. Some of my objects make sounds or have moving parts but the one installation that is always central is a spinning teacup with a tinkling spoon in it. Anyone visiting my studio is sure to leave with a smile and a mind full of new ideas and inspiration. If you like to visit me there make an appointment by mail: sylviathijssen@casema.nl It is in this personal space that I paint my colorful canvasses. The 'Trees' are strong and connected with the surrounding landscape. They bear energy in them and the colors are refined. Painting them is like meditation to me and they often have a Japanese feel. These paintings are sure to bring character into your room. I wish for my paintings to make you dream, to inspire your ideas and to give you a lot of colorful days! Sylvia Thijssen

In a short docu I show you my latest series of paintings in my studio. In Dutch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPrjF3D0Irs&t=61s Living in a not-too-big city in the south of the Netherlands, the Dutch visual artist Sylvia Thijssen walks every day to her studio. It is a four kilometers walk wherein she crosses two small rivers. It is an excellent distance to free her mind of domestic affairs for to let the muse in. It is in this sunny, personal space that she paints her colorful canvasses, in active gestures big and small, like dancing, always trying to hear the colors sing together, searching for an energy wherein is also the peace of a moment in eternity, taking time as if the paint forms a structure that grew and matured. Thijssen is not thinking of her work as making paintings, no, these are adventures. Exciting adventures for her as a painter to make new experiences for the one who is looking at them. These adventurous paintings are meant to wander the mind and to wonder the eye. See also her website: http://www.sylviathijssen.nl
