Forbidden Fruit Painting

This is a painting I created after being challenged by a friend to do a still life painting of a pomegranate. I always want to make things more theatrical in my paintings though so I knew I was going to do something more with it than a still life. While researching pomegranates I found an interesting few articles saying that the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden wasn't an apple at all, it was a pomegranate. That instantly made me start thinking about doing a painting of a figure tasting the fruit and luring you in. Part of me questions if the figure in the painting is actually a representation of the snake. I wanted the painting to have a traditional feel to it, that's why I worked very hard on blending to give the skin a smooth almost glowing feel to it. A lot of people could look at this piece as a self portrait - but a lot of the time I don't see myself in the paintings, Its like I'm a performer and each painting a different character. Partially inspired by my own experiences but also by the world around me.I hope viewers will relate to this painting - allow themselves to be tempted by this ethereal figure. All of my paintings are created using Windsor & Newton oil paints.
