About The Artwork

This work is inspired by the formal garden at Waddeson Manor in Buckinghamshire, UK. The view is from the lawns at the side of the main mansion and looks across the back of the formal gardens laid out and sloping down from the rose beds. I love to observe the gaps between elements of the landscape and to envisage ways in which one might traverse through any given location. I endeavour to dicribe what it feels like to be in a space as well as remember it later. I'm am constantly seeking to express the light and conditions alongside the human condition of connecting with our surroundings. Over the last couple of years I have been pushing the meterials that I use and working with multiple materials, often in unexpected ways. This picture contains many layers of paint and other media.

I work in my beautiful studio close to the dramatic coastline of North Devon. Most days I’m out and about within this coastal landscape walking my dog and being inspired. Being on the MA has given me amazing opportunities to explore my own practice and to hone my style. I have worked as an artist for many years. My earliest memories include walking early and drawing and painting sitting in my bedroom floor. I still wake early and love to start they day in the studio, then head out into the landscape with the dog, camera phone and a sketchbook. In 2015 I decided to fully explore the landscape around me, at the Tim was was living within the amazing Garden of Stowe House in Buckingham, school and National Trust property. I decided I would paint the landscape every day for a year. I worked in oils, capturing the light and weather and energy of the changing seasons. My work has contemporary style, I love using expressive colour and intriguing brush strokes that blend blend with a traditional form of art to create what I hope are a unique and beautiful series of paintings. Undertaking daily painting has further informed my understanding of the landscape and the year long research project of daily painting hugely informed her current practice. . I spent 7 years living in India working as an artist and tutor. I think my work retains the love of colour and story that so inspired me whilst i was there. I have an ongoing life drawing practice and this sometimes breaks out into drawings using the figure within paintings I produce from memory. I love doing these. They are often energetically produced and have a clear story behind them My work is held in private collections throughout the UK and abroad, including Sir Richard FitzHerbert of Tissington Hall, Derbyshire and the estate of Sir Jack Hayward, Barbados. I work full time as an artist and art tutor. I live in Nirth Devon with my husband Pete and my dog Archie. I Am currently on an MA course in Contemporary Art Practice at Plymouth Uni. I run Art Holidays and classes Devon. She is a Patron and a founding member of Buckingham Art for All.
