It's been nearly three years since we have made our sojourn to Santa Fe and I can truthfully say we have settled in comfortably and creatively. The work has been flowing. It's not hard to be inspired by this innovative town - there is always new art to take in, stimulating people to meet and breathtaking landscapes to gaze at. I have been overtaken by my recent series of paintings entitled the waiting room. They are a series of colorful paintings of (mostly deserted) cow pens I have discovered on my travels thru New Mexico and Colorado. 28 so far. I'm not sure how many will finally land in this series but as of now, they are still being born. One thing I have been interested here in the west is how nature, animals and people share the often inhospitable landscape and use it to their advantage. Ranches are a big part of the horizon here and animal agriculture a big industry. These pens represent the idea of farms of the past, before factory farming was the norm. They question the sustainability of this practice and the impact on our planet and our bodies. We are all in "the waiting room". Please check out some of the gouaches in the waiting room gallery on my website lindaguenste.com
