About The Artwork

The new Trinity - three women gathered on the backdrop of the wall with the masks. While fragile flowers represent their individual world they explore masks for manifestation of their full potential in this life. This artwork is not only about feminism in the men’s world. Humans are social animals and they are wired for a social life even if it deforms them detrimentally. Thus masks - personae come to use. This work is about attempts of our souls to fit into foreign social constructs in order to be recognized, to be happy, to survive. It wasn’t done on purpose but now I see how I subconsciously used Andrey Rublev’s “Saint Trinity'' as the reference point for this artwork. Only with women instead of Angels, and flowers instead of their nimbs.

I am a Russian artist based in Sacramento, California. I was born in the Soviet Union, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and lived in Moscow until the political climate of the country became a nightmare. My creative spirit was diminished during this time, but found new life in the United States. I draw upon the traditions of academic art and Impressionism, with a particular focus on the use of color. To me, the color theory is an almost spiritual approach to painting. I try to capture the beauty of the relationship between warm and cold colors, often in night scenes illuminated by moonlight. I wouldn't be able to convey pain and suffering, but rather a timeless atmosphere that viewers can take away and appreciate it as a way of escape.
