THE PAINTING SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona Davis Lisboa, "Galerie légitime # 7", 2017, oil on canvas, 15.7 x 15.7 x 1.57 in (40 x 40 x 3.5 cm) What inspired the work? Conceptually, I had been inspired by a photograph of a NASA space helmet. Formally, I was inspired by the paintings of German artist Gerhard Richter, who works collecting images of family photographs albums, books, magazines and newspapers, which he projects and paints in a mysterious and unfocused style. What do you expect your viewers to feel/think? Firstly, viewers have to know that I have founded my museum, the Davis Museum (www.davismuseum.com) in a ballot box in 2009. This cultural entity has many sections and one of them is "The Paintings Section From Davis Museum ". This is a collection of oil on canvas that I started in 2011 and it is divided into two genres: portraits and still lifes. The portraits serie is about three artists who created their own museums, which are Marcel Duchamp, Robert Filliou and Marcel Broodthaers. The still lifes serie is about the artworks (or images and concepts related to this subject matter) created by them, which are "Boîte-en-valise", "Galerie légitime" and "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles". The main idea of this painting was to make a criticism against the precariousness of Filliou's Galerie légitime. If this French artist has created its art gallery in a paper hat, I propose to go beyond and create a exhibition space in a astronaut helmet and linking concepts like art and science. Why did you choose the medium, the color? I chose the medium because the oil on canvas is a very sophisticated medium, bright and subtle and it allows a wide amount of shades. And becuase it is very durable too. I only use the best materials for my paintings: linen fabrics, turpentine oil and linseed oil from Blockx brand and oil paintings from Old Holland brand. I chose the blue color because it is the Davis Museum Brand Color (Pantone 647 C) and thus, I seek to create a visual connection between all the paintings, works of art and subjects treated.
