Artist Recognition
Artist featured in a collection
Gallipoli, as depicted through the perspective of the women left behind. The daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, and grandmothers’ and the 'bleeding hearts' they carried for the men in their lives. Encapsulated is the moment of recognition and horror whereupon these women encountered the returning soldiers and the subsequent calamities of war. I wanted to express the futility and heartache of war. The senselessness that it causes and the pain in our hearts. Nothing has changed through the ages. Will we ever learn? Nothing has changed. Mother's lose sons, wives lose husbands, children lose fathers, sisters lose brothers etc. My painting reference was taken from a photograph in the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, ACT, Australia Reference material: # (AWM H11576) the Australian War Memorial
