About The Artwork
Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles in the Hindu pantheon of gods. Fond of sweets, shown with a lotus flower that blooms only in mud, and shown with bees around his ears because of his sweet smell. The encaustic wax is scraped off at the top to save the piece from being an illustration, and to show the process and struggle inherent in making any work of art. I made this while a student at Harvard Divinity School- it has been exhibited in New York, Cambridge and Boston.
