Garden Map #6 abstractly captures the abundant flowers of the front yards in Los Angeles. These flowers, lawns, grass and pathways are distinctive to Los Angeles and bloom year round. Lynda Keeler is an award winning abstract painter who creates maps that capture the landscapes she sees on her daily walks through neighborhoods in California. Inspired by Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn and Wayne Theibaud along with the desert landscapes of Palm Springs and Joshua Tree and the vivid ocean views of Venice beach and Malibu. These paintings and sculptures chart how the natural and built environments intersect in ways that can be in harmony or in conflict. Unexpected symbols, shapes, text, colors and textures provide visual navigation. Each painting includes a wide range of materials including acrylic and oil paint, inks, markers, enamel and sand to capture these moments. Keeler has shown in group and solo shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Joshua Tree and Palm Springs and studied at UCLA, Otis School of Art and Anderson Ranch. She is also know for her public artwork and vivid murals. In 2021 she co-founded Desert Open Studios an annual art event that features 150 artists working in their studios across the Coachella Valley.

My paintings colorfully capture the intersection of the natural and built environments I see on my walks, bike rides and car trips in Southern California. These abstract landscapes are based on maps, both real and imagined, and incorporate a wide variety of materials including nail polish, embroidery thread, crushed stone and reflective elements along with traditional oil and acrylic paint.
