About The Artwork
This is a portrait of my dear friend Đurđina. When she sent me a selfie from her new apartment, I was in the moment of deciding what to paint next, so it occurred to me her selfie would be a perfect painting. The name of the artwork is referencing her tattoo that we can't see in the actual painting, but just knowing it's there, gives her character so much edge and depth. It means she carved a symbol of one of the most important Yugoslav battles in WWII, it means she carries on her body a symbol of defeat of fascism and all the values that go with it. It transforms her from objectified, sexualized latex chick to layered icon for the 21st century.
