I paint with coffee as it gives a beautiful colour, and connects the artwork directly to the history of migration of people around the world. Coffee has the ability of evoking memories with its olfactory element, as well as tainting, just as traumatic events leave their marks on our memory. There are times when travel is forced and not out of personal choice, such as in cases of displaced individuals or groups being forced to seek refuge in another country due to political or religious persecution in the country they have settled in? Can such memories and events ever be forgotten?
