About The Artwork

Portraits without apparent faces is a mental exercise, to work from our personal beliefs, and try to complete the individual in front of us. Where the detail, the clothing, the objects related to the person and her body, will in a certain sense facilitate notions of the type of person we believe they can be and the social class to which they belong. And in which the physical attributes of each individual complement that other invisible part of my work without an apparent face And it is in that incorporeal portion of the characters in my paintings where everything is created. It is my visual metaphor for thought, that ability to generate ideas and images that cannot be seen but are there. Where everything begins and defines us as people. The compass of each subject to decide how much and where we are going, to get closer to what he wants and move away from what he does not want. In this sense, the legs are vital, they are the support that receives the orders from the brain for each movement to be executed. They allow us to stand or move, to be independent, to maintain balance, to run, to jump, to get up. And in addition to supporting a weight that is physical, they protect and guide a personal story.

Yalili Mora ( Cuba, 1972) is a visual artist based in Barcelona. She has earned a BA from the National School of Fine Arts in Havana, Cuba. She is a former member of the extinct Cuban collectives Grupo Punto and Coordenada Arte-Sur. Among her solo shows are included Portraits without Apparent Faces at the Cultural Centre Sant Agustí, Barcelona, Spain (2021) and Installations at the Ludwig Foundation (1999); as for her participation in group shows, Yalili Mora’s work has been included in Art Nostre 19, Alicante Biennial of Visual Arts, Spain (2021); Inventario: Grupo Punto 20 años at the Ludwig Foundation in Havana, Cuba (2015) and While Cuba Waits: Art from the Nineties at Track 16 Gallery, Los Angeles, USA (1999).
