About The Artwork

I like to read the myths of ancient Greece and visualize legends in my own way. This painting is dedicated to the ancient Greek history of the garden flower - astra. Painting in encaustic technique, using beeswax, resin and color pigment on wooden panel. Magic visualization of Ancient Greece myths. The painting is supplemented by a very realistic mini-sculpture of the beetle, which is also covered with beeswax and pigments. This artwork could be framed for free by black wooden frame or if you don't want – without it. Dimensions with frame 78*108 cm. Astra translated like "star." According to legend, stardust fell from the constellation Virgo, which for the Greeks was associated with the goddess of love Aphrodite. Reaching the earth, in those places where particles of dust touched, asters flowers grew, so reminiscent of celestial stars with their inflorescence. The Greeks believed that if you get up at night with growing asters, then in complete silence you can hear. weak whispers so, according to belief, asters keep in touch with their sister stars in the sky. Astra is a symbol of people born under the sign of the zodiac of the Virgin. This flower, sent to people by the gods, identifies sadness in the sky, in a lost paradise, which is no longer achieved. The beetle is happy that it happened on a starry night to hear what asters with stars talk about and take part in a conversation about the secrets of being. This painting was shown at the exhibition «Floral myths of Hellas», Russian Art Museum in Moscow (Russia, August. 2020).

I'm a contemporary Russian artist. I took the family name Mamontova for a pseudonym, inspired by the family history: my great-grandfather was the Russian merchant Vasily Mamontov, he continued the family business of the XVIII-XIX centuries in trade and delivery of goods from England to Arkhangelsk and the Urals on the Mezen river. Here you can make sure that my pseudonym is officially registered. http://isni.org/isni/0000000491277848 The study of the history, traditions and arts of different countries and the continuous search for new images give me the opportunity to explore all forms of life and transfer this experience to others by my paintings. The one of the main goals of my work – the revival of cultures and art from different eras, the popularization of forgotten knowledge. Right now I work in 3 techniques: – classical oil painting, – decorative-applied art “encaustic” – an ancient method of painting with hot beeswax with pigments, – the author's technique Oρείχαλκος – oil on brass. I live and work in 2 places – Moscow, Russia and Alanya, Turkey.
