About The Artwork

LARGE REDUCTION ON PRICE Another Colourscript work using writing as hieroglyphs overlaid on the image of a Sydney harbour view. The writing is from my poem ‘Re-reading’, describing when my views were generated, and creating a kind of web or ‘filter’. The intense colour comes from my memory of my youth and the optimism of growing up in Sydney in the seventies. The source image and the writing have been used in several works. Transcript: Yet all I know has been filtered through the rosy lens of relative peacetime, a remote sleepy liberal education, opportunity and growth, a sexual revolution, benign welfare state, space exploration and the aftermath of two devastating world wars. Now the world turns on tweeting presidents, making, breaking, faking news, and algorithms producing democratic results and diabolical sinister home-grown and far-flung threats hit home. Global warning overheats, and rich corporations instruct nation states. And still the powerless are put upon, punished perish for being poor. Or was it ever thus, and I didn’t see it? Thank God our potent children take as much from their peers as their parents.

I am an Australian Interior Designer and painter living in London UK. I believe we are put on this planet to look after each other, including strangers. I make art to have a conversation with people I will never meet, to find a connection between our experiences that reflects our common humanity. I live in an age when the earth faces an existential, environmental and humanitarian crisis through climate change, and art is the way I represent my time and place, to respond emotionally and convey the urgency of the need to become carbon neutral.
