About The Artwork

I spent my early childhood summers at Cannon Beach. Haystack Rock was (and is) a showstopper. As a kid, I thought of it like a breathing giant with it's head stuck in the water or tucked around a corner - hairy with plants growing everywhere. I go back nearly every summer to enjoy the salty-fresh air and to keep a watchful eye on the rock. It does seem to breathe. I painted this from memory with the intent to capture the feeling of being on this beach looking right at Haystack Rock. I hope you get the sense of an otherworldly giant continuously rising from the ocean but never raising it's head. I hope you, if you have visited Cannon Beach, remember all the life that thrives on this little ecosystem. Often when I paint, I use glazing as a way to hide and reveal colors. I like the way acrylic can be used as a wet or dry glaze - the texture variation was important to capture the haziness of the sky versus the luxurious foliage on Haystack Rock.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I am a painter, illustrator, choreographer, and poet. I studied dance in university and relate movement to all of my artworks. I live near the Rocky Mountains in Utah and always find ways to enjoy them - rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, etc. I have been inspired by writers like Emerson, Thoreau, Muir and Von Humboldt to get out and appreciate the natural beauty of the world. When I paint after I have sat and taken snapshots in my mind of a particular scene, I think back to not only the colors and textures but how the view made me feel. I often use glazing, paint dripping and stamping in my paintings. These effects get me closer to that gut feeling that nature gives me. I usually end up really, really liking my paintings and hope you do too!
