The painting, Helter-Horizon II, is inspired by the Parasol pine tree. It depicts a warm summer evening in a slightly strange ethereal setting where colours complement each other in the soft evening light. Each painting in the original labyrinth series contains a number of metaphors that relate to the human condition. Helter Horizon II is no exception. It takes the original iconic helter-skelter from 'Twisted Moon' and places it into a warmer, more soothing and inviting composition. The helter-skelter represents birth and childhood, reminding us of warm memories and halcyon days of childhood when every day seemed like a holiday. The path through the labyrinth to the helter-skelter is unimpeded, suggesting that we should never let anything obstruct our fondest childhood memories. The hot air balloons in the painting pertain to ambition, freedom, and limitless possibilities. In the foreground of the painting, there is a purple book that links this painting with a visual narrative to 'Labyrinth Chase' and ‘Labyrinth Shade’. It also serves as a metaphor for good health through reading stimuli and consumption of purple-coloured food, which protect our mental health functioning as we age. (Other paintings mentioned in this biography can be viewed on Saatchi Art or Bennisonart.com) This ready-to-hang original oil painting has been painted on 100% artist cotton natural canvas and hand-stretched by the artist over 38mm gallery stretcher bars. It has been varnished and personally signed by the artist, David Bennison.

Graduating from the Cambridge school of Art in Illustration, David Bennison is a full-time British artist living and working in Cambridge, UK. His concepts have remained firmly grounded in the exploration of curvilinear perspective which complements his current work that has its origins in visual dream interpretation. David’s fine art painting explores ethereal and figurative subject matter that is interweaved with multiple viewpoints to produce intangible landscapes that continue a narrative from one canvas to the next. Repeated metaphors suggestive of sexuality, birth and death, seemingly make subtle relationships with confusing, existential pathways of everyday life. Obvious inspirations to David’s work have included the architectural drawings of Piranesi, graphic artist M.C. Escher, Illustrator Paul Hess and local artist and printmaker Glynn Thomas.
