About The Artwork
This is a heavily layered painting on raw canvas stretched after the painting was finished which I made in my Lowell, MA studio in 2018. This painting features poured paint, doodles in markers, paint pushed around with a silicon wedge device, and thrown and dripped paint. It was composed on raw, un-stretched canvas, and stretched over heavy duty, gallery depth stretcher bars after the painting had dried, leading to a final artifact where the composition wraps around the edges in places. There are also areas of raw, untouched canvas, creating a nice tension between that and the heavily layered areas.

Blake Brasher is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Lowell, MA. He grew up In North Pole, Alaska, and also lived in Turkey, Texas, and Arizona before moving to Massachusetts to attend MIT. He earned a bachelor of science I. Art and design from MIT in 2003 and has also studied art at Harvard and CMU. He also works three days a week as a robotics engineer for Boston Dynamics in Waltham, MA and had a decade long career as a living statue in Harvard Square, Cambridge and other venues around the world.
