This bloke was fishing on the farthest-out point it was possible to reach at Hokitika and still keep your feet dry. From where I was standing, he seemed barely a speck on the horizon. (Ah, the joys of a zoom lens). Hokitika bar is notorious for wrecking ships, but I guess he felt comfortable way out there. Way, way out there. No special techniques in this one. No masking fluid, no scraping back or sandpaper. Just brushes, paint and paper

Paul Lyons is a New Zealand artist working in watercolour.
He uses a variety of techniques to achieve the unusually rich, dark colours and textures that characterise many of his watercolours, and his paintings often include layers of collaged Japanese rice paper or gouache.
He has exhibited in various galleries, including the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and his paintings hang in collections throughout New Zealand and in America and Britain.
The paintings are all watercolours executed with archival-quality materials (100% rag paper and paints with a lightfastness rating of A or AA).
