About The Artwork

"I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes," is a tribute to the divine feminine, created before I had stopped going to church (it's been a couple of years now) and before I was quite comfortable with this sort of imagery in my work. It was a bold move for me at the time and I love the way she turned out. The figure is kneeling, arms outstretched, seeking help from another realm, an unseen and infrequently-accessed plane of consciousness. The title is from the Bible verse Psalm 121:1 which reads "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." Other translations pose the second clause as a question, which has always spoken to me as someone who rarely felt heard by the distant God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. She is hovering over a canyon, deep and wide, carved into the earth by time, wind, and water. The triangles represent female energy. The hot pink gel pen used to draw the figure and hot pink paint used on the edges of the canvas lend themselves to a modern take on female energy. In your home she will help connect you to that divine feminine energy as a visual totem. She is also an excellent guide for psychedelic experiences.
