I know you can understand me is one of a series of experimental research paintings by Elizabeth Hefty-Khoury for a series, Imagined Idioma where she fuses text and images into one. By creating an imaginary language, inspired by ancient Irish Ogham, Arabic, Norse runes, and Japanese calligraphy, the artist explores communicating across linguistic and cultural barriers, and the universality of art as a means of expressing and being understood. The work itself is simple - deliberately so - in the same way that words and sentences in written or spoken language are simplified.
