All my paintings are stylized as antiqued and made in the classic technique of old Masters. ▲ Note: The icons have a number of specific features: cracks (“craquelures”); imitation of loss of the “levkas” and the paint layer. A pattern of minute surface cracks (a network of fine cracks) on painted surface. I developed my own unique technique and technology imitation of craquelure, loss of the “levkas” (gesso) and the paint layer. The crack patterns are artificial (handmade). The craquelure varnish was not used for the stylization! The icons are made to appear aged through the use of artificial methods and various techniques. The majority of the Icons, I have created were painted on aged wood, however, at times I have had to resort to the use of boards created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. In particular, this icon board created and carved with my own hands, and subsequently aged artificially. The “kovcheg” (cut-back centre portion) is deep, with two thin connected cut in the reverse side. All Icons are executed in accordance with the canon, iconographic traditions and iconography technique. The traditional iconography basically imitate rare extant icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries. The icons look old-time (old style/16th - 17th – centuries style) and very similar to the original icons of the 16th - 17th – centuries style. Thanks for looking! ☞ ••• Description of the main scene of the Icon ••• In the centerpiece of the icon is the figure of the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. His right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing and his left hand holds the Gospel book with the image of Crucifixion. On the omophorion of the Saint Nicholas instead of usual crosses are medallions with the images of the scenes illustrating the Akathist: the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin, The Nativity of Christ and the Presentation of Our Lord. On the chest of the Saint Nicholas is the image of Christ Pantocrator in the oval medallion. To the right and to the left of his shoulders are represented half-figures of saints John the Baptist (Forerunner) and Apostle Peter in the round aureoles. To the right and to the left of his chest, at the level of the hands, are represented figures of the Guardian Angel and Archangel Michael. In the upper border of the icon, left-right, are the half-figures of the Holy Great Martyr Demetreus of Thessaloniki - the Holy Warrior, Holy Equal to the Apostles Great Prince Vladimir and St. Grand Prince the Pious Alexander Nevsky. On side borders are the figures of the standing Saints. All of them are not shown in frontal position, but turned to the centerpiece, in prayer. On the left, top-down, are the figures of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, Forefather Seth and Forefather Reuben. On the right, top-down, are the figures of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called, Forefather Isaac and Patriarch Dan. On the lower border are the half-figures of the Prophet Micah, Elijah the Prophet and the Prophet Gedeon.
