ICON The sincerity of child's love and passion is often an inspiration to me. The genuine enthusiasm for things that are completely incomprehensible to many adults or are relics of the past. When I came to one of my preschoolers, I saw an "iconostasis" of rubber bubbles in the room, fifteen pieces, no less!!!! All of the toys had the same function, but different shapes and colors. When I asked why so many, I got the confident answer that the more artifacts, the stronger the love and belief in the trend. In slightly different words of course, but the meaning was the same. I like to observe the values of generations, analyze, compare, draw parallels. Kite, Rubik's cube, multicolored Slinky, building sets, spinners... at different times there were different toys which were "icons" for children, I wonder what the next one will be...

Ilya Potapov is a contemporary Russian artist. His main source of ideas is society. World events, generational values, communication technologies, family attitudes and traditions. He likes to call it ordinary surrealism or amazing parodies of ordinary activities. The artist's ironic cuts often betray even serious plots. His main media are canvas and oil. According to him, this material is the most expressive because of the semantic load that he gave to the canvases. He often uses acrylic as a process, but usually in support of oil, to create more texture and layers.
