About The Artwork

Immersion is the title of this work. Using encaustic over a mirror immerses the light of the mirror, from which emerges a sun setting on a sculpted sea. The whole picture is hung inside a frame to enhance the depth. Inside and behind the frame, the wall becomes part of the composition. The structure preceded the picture. I was experimenting with Encaustic on mirrors. I wanted to construct a structure that was very light weight and used a mirror. A thin acrylic (unbreakable) mirror fixed onto a stretched canvas and framed with paper and wax. When light is reflected from the mirror through the colored wax, the drama of the sunset is augmented. When it is not reflected, the mirror appears black. Mirrors are often part of my works. Each is made to emphasize another aspect of reflection. Because the reflected light changes as the light in the spectator's environment changes, I found it impossible to make an accurate photograph, but this also makes the picture impossible to replicate.

Shipping & Returns

Art is a passion, which I steadfastly develop in my own way, getting inspiration from fragments of poetry, photographs or stories, rather than from drawings or paintings of other artists. Dr. Dalia Hakker-Orion, curator of my solo exhibition in Tel Aviv wrote: “She doesn’t paint according to instructions or styles, but evolves at her own pace, creating original paintings manifesting passages connecting different realities.” My story stretches from my childhood home in Southern California to the Sea of Galilee in Israel. My dual citizenship has strongly influenced my perspectives. From multiple traditions, art emerges as the visual expression of movement and multi-layered ideas. I am currently working with encaustic paint that I make in my studio. My work incorporates a variety of materials: oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil sketches, and found objects.
