Painting: Oil on Canvas.
“Man remains a mystery to himself. He has a nostalgia for being, a longing for duration, for permanence, for absoluteness – a longing to be. Yet everything that constitutes his life is temporary, ephemeral, limited. He aspires to another order, another life, a world that is beyond him. He senses that he is meant to participate in it.” – Madame de Salzmann, in The Reality of Being: The Fourth Way of Gurdjieff, published by Random House.
Conceived and completed by the summer of 2009 at the Island Studio, Jerusalem.
This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished black edges. It comes ready to hang. Signed on the front and back.
About a process:
This piece has started with no preconceived notion of where the process will go. There is something magical about the painting being spontaneous, as only have a certain amount of control over what is out - the rest is serendipity. This is a multilayered work. Alexey builds up layers using a variety of techniques with large windows in each, so that the final images are a kind of collage of textures.
About a series:
Inspired by the romantic, science fictional books and movies, Alexey strives to imagine the possibility of visiting remote places that no man ever get to see. He approaches this work without preconception and allows his unconscious mind to direct the formation of his surreal landscapes. Each and every painting in this series is a window into realms that lie beyond the vanity of worldly affairs. Somewhere above. An idyllic escape art transports us to imaginative realities.
