About The Artwork

I love contradictions. They resonate with me. It’s a conflict I relate to on a daily basis and a constant theme in my work. It’s in our nature to struggle to choose between good and bad, peace and stress, virtues and sins. The way we influence the outside world, and how we let the outside world influence us. It’s in that internal struggle where I play. I paint so that every brushstroke is prominent while it simultaneously harmonizes with the image. I want small brush strokes that sculpt grand detail. I want bold disorderly brush strokes that breaks the mold. I want romance in the solitary. I want the real and the fantasy. I want to smack the paint filled brush against the canvas and mold the colors into place. I want texture but I also want balance. I want to embrace my mistakes as I thrive for perfection. I want to be a bit careless in this fragile world. This constant irony. This Subtle Chaos.

Carlos Antonio Rancaño was born in Miami, FL. from Cuban/Panamanian parents. After graduating Cum Laude from MIU with a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, he started his career in Advertising. Even though he was always keen to drawing, it was the strict rules of design that gave way to his paintings. The free spirit that lives in his work is a direct response to the more simplistic approach of Graphic Design. His work is saturated with bright, warm colors and sharp, rigid brush strokes serving as a pedestal to the subjects in his work. Spreading from an array of themes, like bold portraits of women to African child soldiers, his work is never well-worn. Carlos Antonio has participated in various exhibitions across South Florida, as he continuous to establish himself as a premier artist.
