Large number of african ladies battle with no confidence in self, inferiority and low self esteem, thereby giving little or no regard for their natural skin color and moral values. The painting is embellished with a lot of african motifs, designs and patterns at the background which reflects the black culture is very rich and has a lot of values embedded in it, one of the stylized motifs at the background is "ilari" (comb) which is very significant in the treatment and preservation of a woman's hair, comb is one of the most important property a true African woman must value and cherish so much, another stylized repeat pattern or motif at the background is "owo eyo" (cowries) which signifies wealth or money, the cowries used to be African means of exchange and store or preservation of wealth many years back. other motifs symmetrically stylized at the background are floral motifs, which symbolises nature's beauty, wavy fish movement which symbolizes the mermaid (river goddess) known in Africa as the "goddess of beauty" true beauty is black. Most of these women now, are fighting skin cancer, destroyed melanin and sorts of skin diseases or infections as a result of high rate of skin bleaching. This painting is preaching African moral values, natural beauty, confidence in self, appreciation of self beauty and high self esteem. The butterfly is naturally beautiful and confident about it. Black is beauty, black is beautiful and true beauty is black!
