View in a Room ArtworkView in a Room Background
A semi abstract oil painting, inspired by time spent living in Paris, close to the beautiful Jardin du Luxembourg. This view is at the end of the afternoon, in late Summer when the trees are heavy and the chess players, who during the day sit in the shade, have gone home. The shadows in the foreground are long, with the sunlight falling through onto the path in the distance. The trees offer further shadow in the far background, which has been left soft and mysterious.

The trees are painted with textured brushstrokes, in glossy oil, to reflect the weight and shade offered by the late summer foliage, with thin layers of paint built up in areas.
Delicate sweeping layers illustrate the cool areas beneath. The use of calming greens and the bold expression of the shadows gives this artwork a modern and contemporary feel.

Painted with Michael Harding Professional Artists oil colours on mounted wood board, the edges have been left clean to reveal the grain of the wood and it can be displayed unframed or framed. It is signed and dated on the back and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Ready to hang.

This artwork will be carefully wrapped and shipped within 5 working days.

Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions. March 2019 - Two pieces shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.
