About The Artwork

The expressive style of this contemporary landscape painting was inspired by time spent living in Paris, close to the Jardin du Luxembourg, a favourite place to spend time and sketch. This is the area where the chess players gather to sit and play in the shade of the trees. However, by the end of the afternoon, the space is left quiet and tranquil. The shadows are long beneath the trees and loose, bold brushstrokes convey the volume and movement of the leaves that offer cool shade, with the sunlight spilling through and lighting the path beyond. This artwork is painted with Michael Harding Professional Artists oil colours on stretched canvas. The edges are painted white, so it can be displayed framed or unframed. The painting is signed and dated on the back and is ready to hang. It will be shipped with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions. March 2019 - Two pieces shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.
