Oil on canvas, 80x50cm.
The concept has been inspired by my contemplations of the Sangro Valley skyline at the falling of the dusk. In the last two decades the pristine wilderness of my birthplace countryside has been profoundly violated by the ever-growing invasion of the buildings and factories ugliness (a reflection of the interior void infesting most of the inhabitants souls). In the middle of my meditation about the doomed condition of this little realm encapsulating my childhood memories, I suddenly visualized a sleeping woman suffocating his own just born baby still tied to her umbilical chord. A sublime depiction of a quiet self- inflicted atrocity that will consume our interior and exterior landscapes for many more years to come.
