from the artist:
I began this painting with the building and utility pole only. It was definitely missing something.

My sketchbook is full of drawing of unusual looking people. One of those images was of the character "Sho Nuff" from the wonderfully-terrible movie "The Last Dragon".

When I came upon my sketch I new what my painting was missing, and that drawing became the background image of this piece.

This work is part of my exploration of the urban landscape in it's often dilapidated beauty.

It is an original work signed with the signature Watson "W".

Nearly all of my life I have lived surrounded by nature and pastoral beauty. For many this would be artistically inspiring, but it has never aroused my creativity. I find my inspiration outside my world. My work is fueled by the disorderly chaos created my many people living in an urban environment. These places fascinate me; often rife with urban decay and the chaos created by the visual overload of these environments. Informational signs, advertising, graffiti, layered paint, and neglect weave a rich tapestry of imagery. Using these urban landscapes for inspiration is artistically liberating. Layer upon layer of disparate images create a visual space with multitudes of styles and colors. These living environments have no designer or art director; they evolve in a process that mimics nature itself.
